Lesson plan: Activity 21

Lesson plan: Activity 21

This is the 21st and final activity in the Jumpstart Sequence. This will be dedicated to the sharing of student work. We estimate 30 minutes for students to share and read one another's work; this activity can take an hour or more, depending on how many projects you would like students to experience.

Learning Objectives

Students should be able to:

  1. Present or share their completed Project Templates
  2. Learn from their peers' career journeys

Materials

Students:

  • Internet-connected computer
  • Ability to communicate with their project group by video or phone (If applicable)

Instructors:

  • Internet-connected computer
  • Student roster (if grouping students)

Advanced Preparation

  • Decide on mode of sharing projects. Here are a few suggestions, but feel free to get creative:
    • Create a shared Google Drive folder where students can save and browse Final Projects
    • Create breakout rooms where students can share screens and present Final Projects to one another one at a time
    • Have students email their projects to the group

Begin the activity

Assign the activity to your students by email or in class

To assign the activity to your students, email them:

  • Link them to this webpage for the activity page
  • Options for sharing projects with their peers
  • Directions on how you'd like to collect their Final Projects at the end of this activity
  • Ask your students to share a reflection (usually a short 1-5 sentence written response to a prompt)
  • Instructions on how you'd like to receive their reflections
  • Reflection prompt: What have you learned from your classmates' presentations that helps you think about your own career journey?

Example email:

💡
Hi Class! Here is today's CareerVillage activity. As you read your peers' projects (or listen to their presentations), think about what you're learning from them. Write notes or give verbal feedback to at least three peers, complimenting them on a specific aspect of their project ("I like how you...") and/or asking them questions about next steps they might take. At the end of this activity, please send me both your Final Projects and your reflection in response to the prompt below. Reflection prompt: What have you learned from your classmates' presentations that helps you think about your own career journey?

Background Knowledge

  • None.

Assessment

  • Formative: Instructor should collect student reflections
