Lesson plan: Activity 39

Lesson plan: Activity 39

This is the 39th activity in the Maximum Impact Sequence. In this activity students will update their career goals. Students should be able to complete this activity almost 100% self-guided. It could be done in class, or assigned as independent work. This activity should take you 5 minutes to set up and should take students 10-25 minutes to complete.

Learning Objectives

Students should be able to:

  1. Update their career goals
  2. Recognize that goals are fluid and are open to change
💡
Heads Up: This will be the last assignment you are creating in the CareerVillage platform. The next few activities will be time dedicated to working on final projects, culminating in the last two sessions of final presentations from all students.

Advanced Preparation

No advanced preparation is required.

Begin the activity

Step 1: Assign the activity to your students by email or in class.

To assign the activity to your students, email them:

  • This web page for the activity plan
  • Ask your students to share a reflection (usually a short 1-5 sentence written response to a prompt)
  • Instructions on how you'd like to receive their reflections
  • Reflection prompt (ie: Has your career goal changed? What steps have you made towards accomplishing your goal?)
  • A reminder that they should keep track of their reflections so that they can read them later which will help them for their Project Status Reports and the "growth" portion of their Final Presentation.

Example email:

💡
Hi Class! Here is today's CareerVillage activity. Today we will be updating our career goals. I have created an assignment for you all in CareerVillage. Please complete this activity by [DUE DATE HERE] At the end of the activity, you should reply to this email with a reflection. Be sure to keep track of your reflections so you can read them later in the course. Reflection prompt: Did your career goal statement change greatly? If so, how? If not, what's the next step you'll take to make progress toward your career goals? Do you need any help or do you find anything confusing?

Step 2: Set up a CareerVillage Assignment to track student completion

Because CareerVillage Assignments trigger email notifications to students, we recommend setting up the Assignment after you email the students instructions (Step 1 above). For this activity, you will be creating a new assignment just like the one you created in Activity 3

  • Go to your Educator Dashboard
  • Assignment Type: Career Goal Statement
  • Assignment Description (example copy): Hi Class! Today you'll be updating your career goal! Go to your profile, click the pencil icon in the corner of your career goal statement and update your goal. With any remaining time, go explore other students' questions and career goals on CareerVillage. Don't forget to send me your reflections when you are done. Thanks!
